Nepal is home to the highest mountains in the world!

In total, there are 14 mountains on our planet at an altitude of over 8,000 meters. More than half of them are in Nepal.

Because with Mount Everest (8,848 meters), Kangchendzönga (8,586 meters), Lhotse (8,516 meters), Makalu (8,485 meters), Cho Oyu (8,188 meters), Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters), Manaslu (8,091 meters) and Annapurna (8,091 meters), eight of the 14 8,000-meter peaks are located in Nepal.

Sports activities in Nepal are not only possible for mountaineers, but also for runners. In the high mountains of the Himalayas, several trails and ultra-trail events are held. The starting point of many running events is Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.

The biggest running events in Nepal

An absolute highlight in Nepal is the Tenzing Hillary Everst Marathon. This is the highest marathon in the world. The participants even reach the Everest Base Camp at an altitude of 5,356 meters on a high alpine route. At this Base Camp the climbers start their tour to the highest mountain in the world. The Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon has been held annually in May since 2003. At this time, Mount Everest is usually also climbed.

The Annapurna Trail Marathon and Himalayan Trail Race start from Pokhara and are run in the vicinity of the Annapurna. The running events are 100 and 55 kilometers long respectively.

But the Annapurna Trail Marathon is not the only ultra trail in Nepal. Other well-known ultratrails are the Mustang Mountain Trail Race in spring and the Himalayan 100 Miles Stage Race in autumn.
