December is dominated above all by the many New Year's Eve runs.
While the first 30 days of the month focus on Christmas business and quite a few Christmas festivals, the last day of the year is traditionally concluded with a New Year's Eve run in many towns and villages.
The last big marathon spectacle
Internationally, there are few major running events in December. But an absolute highlight is the Valencia Marathon, which in recent years has been scheduled for November or mostly early December. The course records of 2:03 and 2:17 hours are at an absolute world class level. So if you are in marathon peak form towards the end of the year, you should book a flight to Valencia.
Marathon races in the US
In the USA, the Honolulu Marathon is a major marathon to close out the year. The marathons in San Antonio and Dallas are also held toward the end of the year.
For triathletes, there are middle-distance races in Haines City (Florida), Oceanside and Daytona Beach.
