What are the running events in Switzerland?

In Switzerland there are no big city marathons like the Berlin Marathon in Germany, but the choice of famous and beautiful countryside and mountain runs in Switzerland is almost unlimited. Road races over the half marathon distance or even shorter distances are also very popular.

A prime example is the GP of Bern in which more than 30,000 people participate every year. Another classic is the "20 km de Lausanne", a road race over 20 km in which a total of more than 20,000 athletes are active.

The most beautiful mountain marathon in the world

Among the most famous city marathons are the Zurich Marathon and the Lucerne Marathon. Among the ultra runners, the Bieler Lauftage are marked in red in the running calendar. 4,000 take part every year.

The Scenic Trail, the Engadin St. Moritz Ultraks, the Zermatt Marathon and the Swiss Irontrail, for example, are all scenically impressive. Almost every week during the summer months there are attractive and well-known mountain runs in Switzerland. World famous is also the Jungfrau Marathon, which takes place in late summer and is considered by many to be the most beautiful mountain marathon in the world. In its beauty it is not inferior to the Greifenseelauf, which, however, takes place on flatter terrain and is thus also manageable for "non-mountain enthusiasts".
